Demokrasi, fahamkah warga kampus?

Tentang Pilihanraya Kampus, timbul persoalan di benak saya, adakah warga kampus memahami apa itu demokrasi? Adakah anggapan-anggapan mereka hanya sebatas pada “kebebasan memilih” sahaja? Atau, mereka langsung tidak mengerti, apalagi menjiwainya?

Maaf, saya barangkali ada jawapan tersendiri. Mungkin betul, mungkin juga salah. Berdasarkan pengalaman peribadi, di kalangan warga kampus, termasuk kakitangan akademik sendiri sekalipun seringkali menafikan praktik-praktik demokrasi samada secara sedar atau sebaliknya. Dan, pilihanraya kampus (hari ini) menjadi bukti bagaimana nilai-nilai ini telah dirampas dari hak mahasiswa.

Bayangkanlah, bagaimana Kelab Aspirasi yang saya percaya didalangi kuasa politik luar, seperti juga kelompok-kelompok gerakan mahasiswa yang lain (yang kononnya kata bebas dari pengaruh luar), telah menggunakan pengaruh di kolej-kolej kediaman, serta sokongan dari pentadbir universiti bagi memastikan kemenangan mereka.

Saya diberitahu, hingga malam tadi (28 september 2005), para calon-calon Aspirasi telah berkunjung terus ke bilik-bilik asrama siswa, yang sudah diketahui siapa penghuninya hasil daripada maklumat yang dibekalkan oleh pihak kolej. Mereka berpeluang untuk mengedarkan risalah secara terus ke tangan siswa, tanpa ada rasa takut-takut.

Lebih dashyat lagi, mahasiswa telah diberi amaran akan pembuangan kolej andainya tidak menuruti arahan undian terhadap calon Aspirasi nanti. “Adik kena undi calon Aspirasi, kalau tidak susahlah nak dapat kolej pada semester depan”, ulang balik teman saya tersebut menerusi telefon sebentar tadi.

Lanjut teman saya lagi, di kolej-kolej kediaman di pasang banner, “warga kolej (ini) menyokong penuh calon-calon aspirasi”. Macamana mereka tahu semua warga kolej ini menyokong Aspirasi, bentak teman saya itu. Malah, kertas-kertas undi juga telah disirikan bagi mudah untuk mengesan polarisasi undi mahasiswa. Ini tidak adil, dengus teman saya lagi.

Saya hanya menadah telinga saja dan membiarkan ia meluahkan rasa yang berbuku. Saya tahu, rintihan teman saya itu hanya secebisan dari kehilangan semangat demokrasi di kalangan warga kampus. Demokrasi hanya dibibir, untuk mengelirukan warga kampus, tidak lebih dari itu.

Pilihanraya kampus, yang sepatutnya menjadi pilihan warga kampus (siswa), kini orang-orang tua (naib-naib canselor dan pihak pentadbiran) turut menjadi kemaruk untuk terlibat sama, cuma sedihnya mereka tidak layak untuk menjadi calon saja. Kalau tidak, habis, seluruh pekakas kampus dimanipulasikan untuk kemenangan naib canselor sebagai pemimpin MPP yang baru (ketawa).

Benar cakap Lim Kit Siang, di negara kita ada kebebasan bersuara, tetapi kebebasan selepas bersuara maaf sekali, tidak ada! Saya juga ingat lagi pesan Sartre, “manusia telah dihukum untuk hidup bebas”, tetapi mahasiswa Malaysia sebaliknya telah dihukum penjara, penjara kampus!

Nilai-nilai yang serentak hadir dengan demokrasi; ketelusan, amanah, integriti, kebebasan, keadilan dll kini hanya kedengaran di halwa telinga, bila tiba waktu pilihnaraya, dan dilaungkan dengan hangat sekali. Walhal, sebenarnya kita telah ditipu! Kita ditipu oleh semua, termasuklah tidak mustahil, oleh golongan oposisi sekalipun!

Hingga kini, saya tidak pernah mendengar ada penyata kewangan bila setiap penggal MPP berakhir, di bentangkan, atau di keluarkan sekurang-kurangnya untuk dimakluman para mahasiswa. Begitu juga, perbelanjaan bagi pesta-pesta konvenkesyen, mana perginya ketelusan senarai perbelanjaan program tersebut? Jangan-jangan ada 'mark up' dalam pembelian?

Apapun tak perlu gelisah sangat, bayangkanlah saja jika Mr. Blur sudah sanggup mengeksploitasi pilihanraya kampus, kemudian PM pula membisu seribu bahasa, justeru apa lagi yang kita mahu harapkan dari pilihanraya kampus ini? Tiada apa-apa makna, melainkan perbuatan mencoretkan pangkah di atas sehelai kertas…
